really...

I am really not looking forward to going to work today...

My boss has been in a bad mood for the past week or so.

I don't have a day off until next Thursday. That sucks.

I just want the next month and a half to two months to pass quickly so I can go on maternity leave.

Or maybe Josh will get that interview next week in California and get offered the job! ;-) We can only hope and pray!

Are you kidding me?!?

Couple Ordered to Stop Holding Bible Study at Home Without Permit

Thursday, May 28, 2009

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county." David Jones told FOX News.

"We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a Bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all," Jones said.

A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited "unlawful use of land," ordering them to either "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit," the couple's attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

But the major use permit could cost the Jones' thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.

For David and Mary Jones, it's about more than a question of money.

"The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion," Broyles told FOX News. "I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple Bible study in their own home."

"The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved," Mary Jones said. "There are thousands and thousands of Bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future."

The couple is planning to dispute the county's order this week.

If San Diego County refuses to allow the pastor and his wife to continue gathering without acquiring a permit, they will consider a lawsuit in federal court.

Seriously? are you kidding me? Are they going to not allow people to have birthday parties? or bbq's? cause that would be the same thing as what they are doing! This goes against everything our founding fathers stood for. What happened to freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly?!? What is this world coming to?

A healthy 30 weeks!

Well, I went in for my appointment today, slightly worried after my last appointment. We started with an ultrasound, which is always amazing to see! We got to see a front face shot this time, and our baby has chubby cheeks! We were also able to see that it has hair already too! It obviously doesn't take after me in that aspect, because I was born bald and stayed that way until I was two years old! haha. The baby is head down, and facing my right side, which explains why I am feeling most of the hard kicks in the top part of my stomach. =)
So after the ultrasound, we went in and saw the doctor, and she said that everything looks great! Fluid levels are normal, Baby is good sized, weighing in at about 3lb 9oz, which is right at the 50th percentile. And the best part! I actually lost about a pound or two! Haha, I guess that 6 pound gain last month was probably water weight or something. So that was a good feeling as well.
So we are even more excited! 10 weeks and counting! I would post and ultrasound picture, but the ones we got today weren't the greatest. Oh well. =) Hope everyone is having a happy Wednesday!

I will leave you with a video I took of my stomach moving as the baby was moving around. You kinda have to watch carefully, but there is definitely movement, especially around 1:23.

Crazy!

We drove up to Reno this afternoon, and driving up, we passed people stopped on the side of the road, and saw one guy laying on the ground. I thought it was a motorcycle accident or something, but didn't stop because several people were already stopped. Turns out it was a shooting. Thank God we weren't driving though around 5-10 minutes sooner... I may have been the good samaritan. Here is the story from the news station:

Northbound U.S. 395 in Washoe Valley is back open this evening after authorities had the lanes closed down for a shooting investigation.

Washoe County Sheriff's deputies say around 12:30 p.m., a Hispanic man shot and killed a man on U.S. 395 just north of the Bellvue Exit. Shortly after, a good Samaritan stopped to help the victim. Authorities say that's when the suspect shot that man as well, then fled the scene.

Within an hour and a half, officers found the suspect in bushes in the area. They say the man wasn't wearing any clothes.

Before being taken to the jail, the suspected was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

No names have been released.

Authorities say this investigation could be a lengthy one, as they determine why the suspect shot the first victim in the first place.

For much of the afternoon, northbound lanes of U.S. 395 were closed, and traffic was being diverted to Eastlake Boulevard. However, that caused traffic backups.

Count on Channel 2 News for continuing coverage of this shooting as more details are released by officers.

Happy Mother's Day! =)

Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I am so lucky and blessed to have you as me mom and best friend. I pray that I can be a mother like you. =)

My little Kickboxer

So last night I was laying on the couch reading, and Baby decided that he/she wanted to start kicking... a lot. For about an hour I sat there feeling like I was being beat up from the inside. haha.
I was even watching my stomach move... it was crazy!
Josh actually got to feel the baby kick for the first time. It kicked his hand pretty good when he had it on my belly.
Definitely think I am growing a soccer player or something. This baby is very active... and strong! =) Luckily the most active times are between 9-11pm, and then usually in the morning between 9-11. Hopefully that will be it's schedule after it's born too! Haha, hey, I can dream, right?

In other news, it looks like my wonderful little sister (who is almost finished with her 3rd year of nursing school) will be coming to stay with me for the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy. (If she doesn't get a job at the hospital) I am excited. It will be nice to have someone around (well, besides josh) to help me out, especially as I get bigger and more uncomfortable.

Today was almost 80 degrees outside, and being outside and walking around the couple times we were made me realize that this is going to be a miserable summer. haha. I was not very comfortable, and felt even hotter than it was outside. I am thinking we may need to invest in a kiddie pool for the warmer days. =) The good thing about carson city is that it always cools off at night... we have windows open and it is supposed to get in the 40's tonight. Even when it is in the 90s it still cools off at least to the 60s at night so everything cools off.

Well, I think I am going to pick up my book and try and finish it. (almost done!) Hope everyone is having a great weekend! =) I know I am enjoying mine off!

28 week checkup

Wow, I am 7 months pregnant already! Part of me feels like It has been so much longer, but then the other part feels like it is flying by. =)

I had my 28 week appointment today... It went ok. The last thing I wanted to hear was my doctor say that I need to go on a diet. Well, not necessarily a diet, but the 2000 calorie American Diabetic Association Diet. I gained 6 pounds this month. 6 Pounds! I don't know how! It is so discouraging to think that I made a little more effort this month to be good, and still managed to gain that much weight.
I have also been tracking my blood sugars (can't do a glucose test because of the Gastric Bypass I had 6 years ago) and while my fasting blood sugar levels are good, My after meal levels are a little high. So I have to really watch the carbs and sugars I am eating. I really wish I could afford to see a dietitian who can help me come up with meal plans and just help me understand this diet.

Another thing she is a little worried about is that my stomach is measuring a little bigger than normal. She says this could be due to the baby growing faster than normal, or too much amniotic fluid. (which could signal other problems) So I am scheduled for an ultrasound before my next appointment in two weeks. I am a little nervous. After looking into the problems that could cause excess amniotic fluid (heart problems, gastric problems, etc) It just has me worrying. I am praying that it is nothing...
Prayers would be very appreciated! Both that I can stick with eating healthy, and also that there is nothing wrong with the baby and that I will have a peace and not worry too much. =) Hopefully these next two weeks will pass quickly. My appointment is May 20.
Hope everyone is having a good week!

Cornelia de Lange Syndrome awareness

The Cornelia de Lange Syndrome Foundation exists to raise awareness about the condition, foster research about the syndrome and provides extremely valuable support and information to CdLS families. It is also the best place on the web to learn about CdLS. From their website:

CdLS is a congenital syndrome, meaning it is present from birth. Most of the signs and symptoms may be recognized at birth or shortly thereafter. A child need not demonstrate each and every sign or symptom for the diagnosis to be made.

As with other syndromes, individuals with CdLS strongly resemble one another. Common characteristics include: low birthweight (often under five pounds), slow growth and small stature, and small head size (microcephaly). Typical facial features include thin eyebrows which frequently meet at midline (synophrys), long eyelashes, short upturned nose and thin, downturned lips.

Other frequent findings include excessive body hair (hirsutism), small hands and feet, partial joining of the second and third toes, incurved fifth fingers, gastroesophageal reflux, seizures, heart defects, cleft palate, bowel abnormalities, feeding difficulties, and developmental delay. Limb differences, including missing limbs or portions of limbs, usually fingers, hands or forearms, are also found in some individuals.

Heidi, over at God's Grace in Practice has a young son who has Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, and is trying to spread awareness of this condition. If you would like to learn more, stop by her blog, or just top by to say hi! =)

The past week...

The past week has been a busy one! I worked every day but wednesday, which was spent getting everything ready for the yard sale.
Last Saturday we went up to my parents property, where I hung out with my mom and Josh helped my dad put up sheet rock on their garage they are building. It was nice and relaxing to hang out in front of a fire and not do much.
Yesterday and today I sat outside all day at our yard sale (I use "our" loosely.... I pretty much did all the work! hehe) But it was worth it, we got rid of a lot of stuff, and made about $400! Then my friend and I took a load of stuff over to goodwill this afternoon, so now our garage is nice and clean, with the exception of a few larger things we want to sell on craigslist.
And, I got a nice coffee table at the neighbors yard sale for $15! =)
Now we are relaxing and getting ready to watch a movie.
Tomorrow we are going to breakfast with my grandma, then coming home to clean, and I HAVE to go grocery shopping, because our freezer is almost empty and we have like no meat left!
So yeah, it was a nice productive weekend, but I am exhausted!

Oh! And two more days until I am 28 weeks pregnant! Third trimester, here we come!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
