Cloth Diapering

Lately we have really been feeling the lack of funds, and our diaper stash that I built up before Jack was born is almost out. After thinking about it, and researching it, I am going go switch to cloth diapers.

They will save us a lot of money in the long run. Diapers are so expensive! Plus, from what I've heard there are less problems with leaking, and they are definitely more eco-friendly. Many people think they are a lot more work, which isn't necessarily true. They do require washing every couple days, and rinsing out poo, but that's about it. not too much extra work to save thousands of dollars until Jack is potty trained!

So far, I have 3 diapers, thanks to a lady on freecycle. But man! Those suckers are expensive to get started on! I am trying to find some good deals, and praying I get my unemployment hearing soon, because if I do, and I win and get unemployment, a chunk of that money will go to getting a decent stash of cloth diapers. Unless anyone out there reading this has some laying around that they don't want anymore! *wink*wink*

So yeah. Anyone have any good advice regarding cloth diapering? =)

I'm so excited to hear you are switching! We use Gdiapers - which are a hybrid cloth/disposable. I wouldn't recommend them if you are doing it to cut back on $, but they are cloth with a biodegradable insert. Check out craigslist for baby genius and other expandable cloth - they grow with the baby so you only have to buy one size!!

When my youngest was a baby I decided to go with cloth diapering. I quickly wished I had done it for my older two children. We used motherease diapers. I loved them. They were one size and we used them from newborn until potty training. I believe they have a trial kit that you can purchase to see if you like them. When we made the switch we were on a very strict budget and I remember making the intial investment was very hard. It proved to be worth every penny.

Do you sew? If you do, you should check out Diaperkit.com. She sells pre-cut diapers for you to sew up yourself for $7-$12 a piece. I'm going to be doing a review and giveaway for her pretty soon. I LOVE her stuff!!!

Also, go to Zany-Zebra and there are lots of tutorials on how to make your own diapers out of recycled materials. Just google it, or google diaper patterns and Zany Zebra should come up. I've been working on making my own recently.

And we do cloth diapers for financial reasons as well and I just budgeted enough money for 1-3 diapers each paycheck. I also tole everyone who asked what they could get me that I wanted cloth diapers. I was amazed how fast I got a good sized stash. I think I got to 24 diapers in 4 months that way. If I worked really hard at the washing, I was able to full-time cloth diaper at 10-14 diapers in my stash.

Wow! I"m sorry I'm leaving such a long comment!
