One year ago today...
On the day before thanksgiving...
We found out we were pregnant with Our amazing blessing, Jack.
This past year has been a whirlwind. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. We are heading over to California to spend the holiday with my family, and I am so excited! And I have one more thing to be thankful for this year. =)
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! God Bless!

My poor little guy
It is so pitiful!
In other news though... Jack is 4 months old today! I can't believe it's been 4 months! It feels like he has been a part of our lives forever!
He had his first taste of Rice cereal the other day, and did great with it! (if you didn't see, the video was posted a couple days ago) He is sitting up supported, recognizes our voices and turns his head towards us, is talking a TON! (even now, with no voice) He is always happy and smiling unless he is hungry, dirty or tired and He is sleeping through the night for the most part. He is grabbing for his toys or our shirts, and is putting things in his mouth all the time.
It is hard to believe how fast they grow! I am trying to treasure every moment I have with him because it passes so fast! It is so exciting watching him grow and learn. =)

My hardest day as a mom so far...
Last night and today were probably the hardest I have gone through as a mother... We have all been sick with what we are pretty sure is the swine flu, and last night Jack caught it.
He was up all night crying, and feverish. His nose was runny, and he had a cough. I didn't sleep at all, and spent half the night crying right along with him.
It is so hard seeing your baby in pain and not being able to do anything about it. Most of the morning was the same, he was either fussing or sleeping... He wouldn't eat, and didn't eat for almost 11 hours. I managed to give him some pedialyte after talking to the dr. and he finally nursed this afternoon, then drank a bottle at dinnertime.
His constant crying has caused him to be hoarse, and it is so pitiful listening to him cry or try to talk.
This evening he has started getting better, he even was smiling. =) his fever looks like it might be starting to come down... Thank God!
Hopefully tonight will be better!

home sick, and new videos!
well, I am stuck at home with what appears to be the flu, and unfortunately Jack is running a fever too. hope his doesn't get worse.
But he has been very talkative today. Which is super cute, even if it doesn't do much for my headache! haha.
I caught two separate videos today, and it's funny, because he pretty much repeats the same syllable over and over and over....
Without further ado...

So much for NaBloPoMo
I'm not so good about blogging every day... haha. Oh well, At least I have been writing a little more than I was before. =)
Things have been going alright here. Josh has been sick for a few days, and I think it may be the flu (he missed 2 days of work, and just went back today, even though he still felt like crap) and now I am having major drainage and crap in my chest. I am hoping it passes quickly, and I don't have to miss any work. Luckily I had today off. Just hope I don't wake up with it worse, like Josh did.
Jack had his 4 month checkup and shots today. He is 15.1lbs and 24 inches. He is in the 8th percentile for height (though I think he might be a little more than 24, because when we measured him last month he was at 24...) and the 56th percentile for height. Everyone is always saying what a big baby he is, and that he's so chunky, but he's really not that chubby. His "welch" cheeks betray his true size. ;-) He did good through his shots, and barely fussed, then didn't stop talking for like the next 2 hours, except to eat.
He is definitely becoming a little chatterbox. Here is a video of him talking to his toy giraffe. He loves that thing!
In other news, I am officially starting a diet today. I know I know... a week before thanksgiving? what? I plan on splurging for thanksgiving, but I wanted to start now, because I could use the excuse of waiting until after the holidays, and then I would never start.
So I am doing a low carb diet. It is one that has worked for me in the past... and I will just have a very small amount of whole grains, etc. But try and eat more protein and veggies, which is what I need.
I also am going to try and get some excercise. It is had with it getting dark so early, but I did 30 minutes on the wii fit today, and unlocked a "free step" where I can do steps with the board while watching tv. The sound on the wii remote helps me keep time. I did 20 minutes of that today, and I like it! My goal is to do at least 30 minutes of wii fit on my days off, and if I can, do some on the days I work too.
Well, I am going to go get dinner ready. Chicken and steamed veggies!
Don't forget to check out the giveaway in the post below this one! =)

A Scam?
The Scam
Here is what a learned friend had to say about my Democratic Math e-mail. It's even worse apparently than I first thought:
It’s way worse than that. Ignore all the gas crap and just look at how the stupid car buyer got taken to the cleaners:
If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent "savings" of $1000.
However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500.
So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.
But wait; it gets even better: you also got ripped off by the dealer. For example, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the "cash for clunkers" program started.
When "cash for clunkers" came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before... (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).
So let's do the final tally here:
You traded in a car worth: $3500
You got a discount of: $4500
---------
Net so far +$1000
But you have to pay:$1350 in taxes on the $4500
--------
Net so far: -$350
And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before.
----------
Net -$3350
We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let's just stop here.
So who actually made out on the deal? The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they "gave" you.
The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.
Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in "free" money from the "government" when in fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.
Think this was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme?
Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world. Think that scheme might be designed by the same people who came up with Cash for Clunkers?

Traveling with a baby....
Can be so unpredictable! We drove up to Redding this weekend to visit some friends, and it was definitely an interesting drive!
It is a 4 hour drive normally. Going up, the trip was uneventful, and we only stopped twice. Jack did great, and only got really fussy once, so we stopped, changed his diaper, cuddled him for a minute, then put him back in his seat and he fell asleep.
Coming home was a whole other story. It took us over 5 1/2 hours! The first half of the drive, he did great! Played with his little carseat toy for about half an hour, then conked out and slept until we got to Susanville (about halfway.) We stopped to get food and use the bathroom, then got back on the road. 5 minutes later, he was screaming. We pulled into a pizza place parking lot, and took him out, changed him, and tried putting him back in his seat to eat while we drove. He was having none of it! We ended up sitting there for 20 minutes while I fed him, and then he finally went back in his seat. He did fine for another hour or so, then decided he wanted out again. He cried for a good 20 miles... finally started screaming. We barely made it to Reno, so we stopped at a walmart and walked around and I carried him until he fell asleep. Then we got back into the car, and he slept for the rest of the way (30 miles or so)
Boy was the drive home stressful! He does not like driving when it is dark and he can't see anything. That makes it harder. I ended up driving for about an hour with the light on in the car.
But, we made it home! Now back to the routine! =)

Owning our problems
I read this article today on To Love, Honor and Vacuum, and thought it was worth sharing. It is so true!
"The British press was all agog a while back with the story of the Chawner family, whom the Daily Mail deemed “The Real Teletubbies”. The parents, together with their two daughters, 19 and 21, live off of welfare because, they claim, they are “too fat to work”. They have obesity related health issues, and assert that there is no way out of their terrible situation. By their own admission, they spend their days watching television and eating junk food, since everything else is too expensive.
Sometimes I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe. If we’re too fat, it’s because we have bad genes, not because we don’t eat well. If we can’t make our payments, it’s the greedy banks’ fault for giving us credit cards in the first place. If we’re finding it hard to get by on government assistance with our three kids by different fathers, it’s the government’s fault for not giving us more, rather than our fault for not waiting until we were in a stable marriage to have children.
I think it’s time for a cold dose of owning up to our problems. All of us have made mistakes. The wiser admit it, learn from those mistakes, and try to act responsibly so that we can be happier, healthier, and more productive. The more foolish insist on always blaming others for their position in life. And if it’s always someone else’s fault, then there’s really nothing you can do to better your life, is there? You’re stuck, and things will never get better.
If we’ve made mistakes, life is going to be harder. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth the work. It’s hard to lose weight, but I know a woman who has recently shed 150 pounds, and she glows. It’s hard to rebuild your life when you began having children at 16, and you have no education, but what’s the alternative? Do you want to be stuck forever in a welfare cycle, with a revolving door of unsavoury men coming in and out of your life?
It’s hard to quit alcohol. It’s hard to break a drug addiction. And often we turn to those things because we were severely hurt as children. Instead of receiving love from our parents, we received insults, smacks, and even worse, complete neglect. Some definitely have a harder road to walk. Just because something is harder, though, does not mean it’s impossible. And the more we keep excusing bad behaviour, the harder we make it for people to actually change direction and start taking responsibility for their own lives.
The government can’t make you into a responsible citizen. It can’t rescue you from bad personal decisions. Others can encourage you to get an education, offer to help you learn to parent, teach you to save, teach you to be pickier when choosing a mate, teach you how to lose weight. But you have to be the one to act on it. No one else can do that for you. If you’re always waiting for someone else to fix your life, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
There shouldn’t be shame in having problems or in having made mistakes in the past. We all do that. The shame should come when we blame others for those mistakes and we don’t do what we can to help ourselves now. Let’s own our problems, stop being victims, and build our lives again. If we don’t, we’re just creating a culture where everything is somebody else’s fault. And that would be a shame, indeed."

What?
I missed 2 days... and only 4 days into NaBloPoMo... I'm lame. Haha.
We are visiting some friends up in Redding this weekend. We drove up yesterday. I am so glad we have a baby that does pretty well in the car. By the end of the 4 hour trip he was ready to be out of his carseat, but a short stop and stretch, and he fell asleep for the last half hour. =)
So yeah, I had planned blogs for the last 2 days, but totally forgot to post them, and now I can't even remember what I was going to post!
Funny story....
Last night, we made a run to the store. I had just fed and changed Jack, so I left the diaper bag at the house. Big mistake! we were at the store, and Josh was holding Jack, and all the sudden, I hear "Eww, Ew! Babe! Ew!" I look over, and Josh is holding Jack out, and there is a big spot on Jack's pajamas where his diaper had leaked poo. And we didn't have anything! So we took his bib off and put it over the spot until we got back and could change him. Lesson learned... Never leave home without at least a clean diaper and change of clothes. ;-)

My job is so frustrating...
as if it wasn't hard enough having to leave Jack at daycare, I get to go work with a couple of rude, unappreciative people, and a boss who is a jerk...
I want to find a new job...

Resemblance?

It's inevitable...
Jack has his first cold...
poor little guy's nose is running like a faucet. I suck everything I can out, then 20 minutes later we are right back where we started.
Luckily he is still in a pretty good mood. I know I've said it before, but he is such a good baby. He only cries when he's hungry, wet or tired. And that really hasn't changed, even though he is sick... I know it's just the beginning, but I am hoping it passes quick, and he stays a happy baby. =)
Happy Monday! =)

An apologie to 'Anonymous.'
First let me introduce myself. My name is Josh "Juice" Welch. I'm married to the love of my life and the author of this blog Katrina. Lastly I am the father of Jack. I take the last hat I wear very seriously. I want my son to grow up to be a respectable, God fearing, hard working man. To do that I have to be an example. Part of being a man is admitting when your are wrong and apologizing for it. So here it goes.
On a previous post Katrina posted, about giving our dog away to a Husky rescue, comments were made by both me and an anonymous reader and an argument was started. Luckily Katrina had the foresight to stop the comments and edit the post with more detail. In one of the comments I made, I was wrong....
So Anonymous.
I do apologize for how I said what I said. "Suck it" is a term that has been reserved to emphasized a point when another friend is wrong. Used in conversations amongst friends about politics games of trivia, and sporting events. The common theme is 'amongst friends' out side of that context it can be misconstrued. So seeing that you, Anonymous, are not my friend I apologize for using that language out of context. I stick by the rest of my comment.
Thank you, to you the loyal readers for enduring that. In the future I hope to add a male perspective to this blog and I'd love everyone's impute.
Goodnight and till next time.

November Already?!?
Wow, I can't believe it is already November. This past year seems to have flown by. This time last year, I was still mourning the loss of the baby we had lost at 8 weeks, and was only a few weeks away from learning the news that we were expecting again!
Now I sit here with the best baby I could ask for! Jack is for sure my little sunshine. I couldn't imagine life without him now. =)
You know what else November is? Its NaBloPoMo... Which means I am going to attempt to post a blog every day this month! We'll see if I can make it! haha.
Hope everyone had a great weekend, and hope you all have a great week!
